What Are The Duties of a Fashion Designer?
After the completion of the fashion designing courses, the designers create original clothing, accessories, and footwear. They sketch designs, select patterns as well as fabrics, and give instructions on how to make the products they designed.
Duties of Fashion Designers
Fashion designers typically do the following:
The first step in creating a fresh design for some fashion designers is researching the current trend and then making predictions about the future trends using the reports published by fashion industry trade groups. Then there are some fashion designers that create their collections by taking some inspirations from their regular surroundings or various art media that inspire them.
When they have the initial idea, then they try out various fabrics and produce a prototype, often with less expensive material than will be used in the final product. They also have to work with models to analyze the look of the design and then make adjustments in the designs accordingly.
Previously, the designers used to sketch their designs by hand, but now they sketch their ideas digitally with computer-aided design (CAD) programs. It allows designers to see their work on the virtual models. It also gives a provision to try out different colors, design, as well as shapes while making adjustments more easily than they can when working with real fabric with the real people.
The designers then produce the samples with the actual materials, which will be used in manufacturing. If the samples, gain good responses from editors or trade and fashion shows, then they are further manufactured and sold to consumers.
Although the design process may vary according to the specialty, in general, it takes almost 6 months from initial design concept to its final production, when either the spring or fall collection is released in the market.
Presently, the Internet and e-commerce allows the fashion designers to offer their products outside of traditional brick-and-mortar stores. They can also ship directly to the consumer, without having to invest in a physical shop to showcase their product lines.
